StuMo Food Drive

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope that you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving break with family, friends, and good food. Bob and I had a great time with his and my family and ate way too much food! :)
Here's a quick update about what has been happening at KSU:
StuMo has the privilege of being one of the largest student organizations on campus at K-State and we wanted to use this fact to bless others. Two weeks ago, StuMo asked everyone who attended our large group meeting to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to a local food pantry, the Flint Hills Bread Basket. This year the Flint Hills Bread Basket has received the same amount of donations as last year but has THREE TIMES as much need. Whoa.
When we dropped off our food at Flint Hills, we had over 477 pounds! One Bible Study alone brought 270 cans. Way to go!

Below are pictures of the truck that took the food to Flint Hills. It was loaded down! :)

Upcoming things to pray for:

1. Sunday, December 6- Bob and I host my freshman Bible Study and his Discipleship group over for dinner. Pray for great conversation and a fun time!
2. December 9-11- Bob and I travel to Kansas City for our annual December Staff Conference. Please pray for safe travel, lots of learning, and Bob's workshop on evangelism.
3. With only 3 weeks left of school, please pray that we would "make the most of every opportunity." (Colossians 4:5) Please pray the God would continue to draw people to himself.
You all are a blessing to us! Thanks so much for your support and prayer!

Freshman Bible Study

One of our values with StuMo is to focus on the freshman. We know that freshman are a valuable asset to our ministry because they making decisions about life, are eager to hear about the good news of Jesus, and will be around for 4 years to continue growing in their faith!
Every week we host a Bible Study just for freshman called Freshman Connection, or FC. Alissa has the privilege of leading an FC Bible Study with girls from PiPhi, Alpha Xi Delta, and a few other girls. It is so much fun!

This week we were invited on a group date with a boys FC Bible Study. The boys picked us up, made us ice cream sundaes with cookies, and had games planned for us to play. What fun! Here are a few pictures from the night.
Our "Family Picture" from the night. Too cute!

Update on Lambda Chi.... 5 men have now made decisions to follow Christ! WOW!

Homecoming Week!

Homecoming week 2009 was last week! Bob and I had lots of fun engaging with students at various homecoming festivities including Pant-the-Chant, Paint the Ville, Wildcat Request Live, and many others.

Although this week keeps a lot of the students we work with very busy, we continued to have great intentional time with them. We were able to share the gospel, lead investigative Bible discussions, and have our regular Bible Studies and Discipleship groups.

Below is a video from Pant-the-Chant with the Lambda Chi boys and the Alpha Xi Delta girls!

Women's Outreach

Wow! Thank you so much for praying for the Women's Outreach retreat! It was amazing and God showed up in so many ways. Let me share with you a few highlights.

  • Over 120 women attended!

  • The gospel was clearly communicated. An AZD told me, "I haven't been to church or done anything with religion in four years, but I want to start my journey with God."

  • My sorority, ADPi, which began with just my friend Jena and myself sharing the gospel...had 28 women attend!

  • Our feedback for the next year was..."Can this please be longer?" :)
Above is a picture of all the ADPis at the Women's Outreach Retreat. My friend Jena is in the yellow on the front row and I am in the third row on the right. It is amazing to see what God has done in the last 7 years!

Week 4

Cooler mornings, pumpkins outside homes, and candy corn for sale at the grocery store can mean only one thing...FALL is here! I love fall. It is my favorite season- bar none. I love the changing colors of the leaves and the crisp "light jacket" temperatures outside.

As the seasons change, our schedule here at KSU becomes a little more solidified. Bible Studies and Bible Discussions begin to become permanent in our schedule and we have developed more of a rhythm in both life and ministry. Below is a picture of some of the guys in Bob's Upperclassman Bible Study. These men have been involved with our ministry for a handful of years now and we just LOVE them!
(Left to Right: Garred, Tyler, Brad, Josh, Bob)

We are so thankful for all of the prayers- God continues to move in great and mighty ways.

"And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You many ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." -Jesus quoted in the gospel of John

Please join us in praying for:

  • Freshman Connection Bible Study. (Alissa leads a study for AZD and PiPhi sorority women.) Pray that the women involved would be committed to attending and completing their studies.
  • Bob's Upperclassman Bible Study. That the men would grow in their godliness and their desire to share the good news of Christ with their friends.
  • AZD Investigative Bible Discussion. Pray that the girls in the study would see who Christ is in a real way and would desire to have Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
  • LXA Investigative Bible Discussions. Pray that the men would see who Christ is and desire to put their faith in Him.
  • Men's/Women's Fall Outreach Retreat. (October 9-10) Please pray that we would see over 150 attend these retreats in KC.

We love you all! Bob and Alissa

End of Week 3

Above: A picture of ALL the student leaders at our retreat in Kansas City.

Bob and I recently returned from Kansas City for our Student Leader Retreat. What an encouraging time with our students. God continues to do amazing things at K-State. We have been able to see over 20 students come to faith in Christ, tons of enthusiasm at our weekly meeting, and our student leaders really taking their walk with God and the gospel seriously!!

Here are some things to pray for this week:

1. Bob speaking to the pledges at Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity

2. Alissa begins an investigative Bible discussion with freshman in Alpha Xi Delta Sorority

3. Bob speaking with the Tau Kappa Epsilon President and open doors to share the gospel

4. Alissa begins an investigative Bible discussion with KSU cheerleaders

Thanks for praying as we seek to penetrate KSU with the good news of Jesus Christ!

The First Few Weeks

WOW! The first 2 weeks are almost complete here at K-State. Crazy to think that the first KSU football game is this weekend!!! Go CATS!

Bob and I, along with our staff team, returned from our retreat geared up and ready to go on campus. It has been fun, fast, and a little crazy! We have enjoyed meeting students, developing relationships, and inviting students to walk with JESUS.

Here is a quick run-down of what the first few weeks have looked like:

Aug. 22- Students moved in!
Aug. 24/25- We hosted three booths on our college campus that invited students to meet us, become familiar with STUMO and think about their own spirituality.
Aug.27- Our FIRST STUMO NIGHT! This is our large group meeting that includes a worship band, relevant and Biblical message, and FUN! We had over 700 students attend.

Aug. 28- STUMO hosted a "Back to Campus" barbecue.

Sep. 2- Bob and I celebrated his 30th Birthday! :)

Sep. 3- Bob speaks at STUMO NIGHT.

As always, thanks for your prayers and support! We couldn't be here without you!

StuMo Staff Retreat in Great Bend

This past week Bob and I, along with the 9 other staff members, were able to sneak away to Great Bend, Kansas to plan, dream, and pray for the upcoming fall semester. The retreat was wonderful. The picture is of a handful of the staff women- Betsy, Jen, Macie, Tracy- and me. It was such a beautiful setting!

It's hard to believe that this SATURDAY the students move back to campus. It is a feeling of both excitement and anxiety. Our staff team has been working hard to ensure that we are ready to receive the students with open arms and warm hearts. As the countdown gets closer, here are some things you can be praying for:

1. Open doors into the residence halls, fraternities, sororities, and athletic teams.

2. A successful first large group meeting- Thursday, August 27 at 9:00 pm.

3. Our key students to return to campus excited and eager to share the good news of Jesus Christ with their peers!
Pray Big!

Back to School

It is hard to believe it is already August. My goodness! Where did July run off to? Here is a little bit about what Bob and I did during the month of July.

KALEO- Bob and I had the privilege to spend a short week in Panama City, Florida at KALEO. It was so much fun to be with our students and students for OU, OSU, and UCA as they made plans to impact their campuses with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bob was able to speak on two different topics- Investigative Bible Discussions and Planning for the First 10 days of school. We also had a great time hanging out with the staff that had spent most of the summer investing in the students.

Camping in Colorado- In order to refresh before heading back to KSU, Bob and I had our first EVER camping adventure. Being a city girl, I had a week full of new experiences! We had a blast. We camped, hiked, fished, and enjoyed s'mores by the campfire.

STUMO Training- From the mountains of Colorado, to the hills and humidity of Arkansas, Bob and I headed to Fayetteville for a handful of training days. We learned SO much and are so eager to head back to campus!

KALEO!!!

Bob and I just landed in Panama City, Florida and we are SOOOO excited to see all of the K-State students at Kaleo. Tonight we will head to the Rally Night at a local church where we will eat a pizza dinner, sing worship songs, and listen to a great message. We can't wait! Not to mention we will see all the KSU students and meet all the students from the other campuses. We have the rest of the evening off and we hope to visit the beach before heading back to turn in for the night.
On a fundraising note, we are feeling so encouraged and amazed at how God has provided thus far. It has been a lot of fun to meet with people and share what has been happening on campus. Once we return from Kaleo, we will have a few weeks to finish funding and then... back to campus. Please join us in praying for the freshmen who will soon be KSU Wildcats.
More to come soon! Look for a "post-Kaleo" update on Friday or Saturday. :)

Amanda and Brandon's Wedding

We are so thankful that while fundraising we are able to travel all around Kansas City and stop in to celebrate our friend's biggest moments. Brandon and Amanda had a beautiful wedding and we were so excited to get to watch as they exchanged vows. We also had a blast seeing our friends who have been in Florida all summer. We are so happy they are back!

Rebecca's Birthday

While in Kansas City, we were able to celebrate Rebecca's 18th Birthday!! We had a lot of fun eating, laughing, and watching Rebecca open gifts.

Bob and I are so excited that Rebecca is headed to K-State next year! She has enrolled in the architecture program and we know that she will do fabulous. Watch out K-State...she's a knock-out! :)

Life in Kansas City, at least for a little while

For the next week and a day or two, Bob and I are in Kansas City spending time with friends and family. We are so excited to have the opportunity to share what an amazing job the LORD has given us!

We are having fun enjoying the unique and exciting sites and restaurants that Kansas City has to offer. :) We have frequented Scooters Coffee House and enjoyed the food at various restaurants. Mostly, we just enjoying being with each other and the new experiences we are having.

We are house-sitting for Bob's parents while here...what fun to have an entire home to ourselves! Bob promised to take me down to the shooting range while we are here. I'm not too sure about this...Bob must have more confidence in me than I do!

We love being married!

Two months and two weeks have passed since our "I do's." After a wonderful wedding ceremony and reception, we honeymooned in Kauai, Hawaii and had a blast!

It's hard to believe that it is already June. Last Friday I finished teaching at a public school in Junction City and now I have joined Bob working full time for Student Mobilization. We are having a blast both living and working together.
